Celebrating International Nurses Day: A ‘Spiritual Breathing Space’ for You

May 12th is International Nurses Day. Having worked alongside so many amazing nurses here in Southern California, I’ve seen how much heart you put into every patient. Being there for someone during their toughest times is so much more than just a job—it’s a calling.

1. More Than Just Medical Care

You are the ones who make sure everything runs smoothly in the ward, providing expert medical care with a human touch. Especially in hospice, your presence and your words are often the greatest comfort a family can have. I have so much respect for the way you handle the pressure every single day.

2. You Need a Break, Too

Even in a professional setting, caring for others takes a lot out of you emotionally. Sometimes, just "getting some rest" isn't enough to recharge your soul. I hope you can take a moment today to look after yourself, too. It would be so good if you could just sit with your own heart for a while.

3. A Simple Thought for Your Shift: "I am a Vessel of Peace"

Before you start your day, or whenever you get a quick minute to breathe, try telling yourself this:

"Today, I am a precious vessel of God’s peace, letting His comfort and healing flow through me to the world."

It helps take the weight off your shoulders. You don’t have to fix everything yourself; you are simply sharing the peace that you have already received.

4. Letting Go and Finding Peace

Feel free to let go of the heavy emotions and stress you carry. Taking just five minutes to write down your worries and hand them over to God is such a big help. I truly hope this small moment of quiet gives you the strength and hope you need to get through your day.

The peace you find within yourself will naturally reach your patients, too. Thank you for being the light in the hospital. You are appreciated more than you know.

🌿 A Little Something for Your Heart

You don’t have to carry all that stress by yourself. Taking a moment to write things down and give your worries to God is really helpful for your peace of mind.
